Role Model of Micro Finance

Daughter of Hiralal Chaudhary and Kamala Chaudhary from Krishnapur Municipality, ward number 6, 23 years old Mahima Chaudhary got married with Hikim Chaudhary, a resident of Jhandi Rural Municipality of Kanchanpur district in 2013 AD. The couples were found extremely difficult to meet their both ends throughout the year with their traditional agricultural activities. Mahima also worked on daily wage labor during her leisure time to meet financial obligations. With the additional income as a wage laborer, she was able to help her husband to widen his knowledge and understanding on issues related with agro-vet.
Soon after, the couple started agro-vet related business with NRs. 16,500 at local level. While there was constant fear and uncertainty over success of the business, the couple took the challenge and did not bow down. In 2012 AD, they obtained the membership of MFP in Manakamana UNYC Women Centre number 40. Initially, Mahima Chaudhary was not interested in seeking loan for several reasons. When her knowledge and understanding on the significance of loan increased, she took 20 thousand rupees as a loan for the first time. This was followed by 30 thousand and 50 thousand rupees loan and as a result she became able to succeed to take her business into new summit. Buoyed by Story

Buoyed by the success, she decided to borrow NRs. 60 thousand, one Lakh, and finally one Lakh fifty thousand in the subsequent days as entrepreneurship loan. Following her participation in the three day training on business related issues organized by UNYC Nepal in 2017 AD, Mahima also burrowed one lakh as business loan.
Mahima, who was reluctant to borrow loan in the initial days, has now taken 5 Lakhs and Fifty Thousand from UNYC Nepal. With this, she has excelled her business and has become the epitome and source of inspiration at the community level. Presently, she has just 1 lakh and 66 thousand to repay her loan and at the same time, she has been able to save NRs. 32,482. Further, she has been settling her installment before the expiry of the deadline and has remained a much disciplined loan borrower. In addition, Mahima has been lending her support to the agro vet business run by her husband.
At present, she earns NRs. 12,500 per month. She has been able to buy a motorcycle and small land with income generated from agro-vet related business. Her centre has now altogether 40 members who have their own uniform dress. It is reported that estimated cost of her project is NRs. 1360,000. With her commitment and dedication, Mahima has now been able to build up Rs 711,000 and became a towering figure in the community. In 2017 AD, she won the highest loan burrower title in the centre’s interaction program and became source of inspiration for many women at the community level.
